Workshow
Atelier Bevilacqua La Masa 2010
11 March at 6.30pm, Palazzetto Tito
At Palazzetto Tito on Thursday 11th March, the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa will open the doors of its exhibition dedicated to the work of the young artists of the ateliers as well as the two artists in residence as part of the Art Enclosures project, created by the Fondazione di Venezia.
Workshow – The Bevilacqua La Masa Ateliers 2010
The exhibition, which will be on show until 25th March, will also feature meetings and conferences investigating the scenarios, themes and working methods adopted by the young artists.
With a view to innovating its most important project, this year the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa will again increase its commitment to young artists as it presents the ones who have been assigned an atelier for the year 2010.
The assignees of the 12 ateliers are:
Ivana Bukovac, Antonio Cataldo, T-Yong Chung, Nicolò Degiorgis, Roberto De Pol, Francesco Fonassi, Alessandro Laita & Chiaralice Rizzi, Diego Marcon, Caterina Rossato, Giulio Squillacciotti, Sara Francesca Tirelli, and "Unità di Crisi"
The works by the artists of Art Enclosures will also be present:
Kiluanji Kia Henda (Angola)
Jabulani Maseko (South Africa)
The two African artists are to be hosted in Venice as part of the “Art Enclosures - Confini d’arte Residenze per artisti internazionali” project in Venice, created by the Fondazione di Venezia and held in collaboration with the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa and with Polymnia Venezia. The aim of the Fondazione di Venezia – with the initiative now entering its third year – is that of promoting and valorising the figure and work of these young artists, believing strongly in the importance of intercultural dialogue between different worlds and situations, and thus also fostering artistic creativity within the local territory.
For the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, the Workshow exhibition constitutes the first of a series of exhibitions that will last all year, and which will show the activities of the young artists who have decided to live and work in Venice, thus implementing of one of the most important fundamental aims of the institution. The practice of providing ateliers and artists’ residencies is in fact one of the characteristic elements of the Fondazione and other organisations like it, founded more recently on both a national and international level.
This initial group show will be followed in about a year’s time by the end-of-residency show, while during the months to come there will be a series of meetings and studio visits held by curators and gallerists from a range of both public and private institutions. The last exhibition, Atelier BLM 2009 (which came to a close on 20th January 2010), took place at the DOCVA – at Viafarini in Milan – and showcased the success of an operation which looks on fresh talent as a source of new reflections on contemporary art as a whole.
The fruitful and creative collaboration project with Moleskine continues, and its notebooks will accompany the BLM ateliers, contributing to the project for the third year in a row. The commitment of the Lions Club of Venice has also been reconfirmed, providing both moral and economic support to the young artists’ study programme, as well as its own special prize.
The new entry among the supporters of the studio project is Stonefly which, with the project entitled Stonefly cammina con l'arte (“Stonefly walks with the arts”), has decided to promote the work of the 12 studio assignees throughout their training, also with the offer of a purchase prize, granted to one of the artists of the studios from whom a work will be commissioned with the aim of interpreting the values and philosophy of the company.
The Diego Marcon's work She Loves You will be projected on Friday the 12 of March and on Friday the 19 March at 4.30; the event will take place at Casa del Cinema- Videoteca Pasinetti, sestriere Santa Croce, 1990 Venice.
